At Cheshire Fitness Zone (CFZ) our goal is to help children and adolescents of all ages feel confident in growing their abilities through therapeutic programs that strengthen and teach new skills for use in everyday life.
Services include: Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT) and Speech Therapy (ST).
Our monthly, “Employee Spotlight Series,” offers a chance to meet members of the team and learn about their experience working with children.
For this month’s spotlight, we spoke to Craig Goldstein, Owner, PT. Craig opened Cheshire Fitness Zone in 2001 and is celebrating 5 years in the South Main Street location this September.
Can you describe a typical day working at CFZ is like?
The best part about working at CFZ for me, is getting to work with the kids. But in addition to the kids, I get to make sure that the therapists work together, the schedules get set, we have a great office team, making sure everyone works well together and that the nuts and bolts are put together so everything runs smoothly.
How did you know you wanted to work with kids?
I always knew I wanted to work with kids. I spent a couple of years working in a children’s hospital and from there, I knew I wanted to do a little bit more. So to create a place, not only to do pediatric therapy but offer fitness programs, specialty programs and go a little outside of the box to be able to work with kids of all abilities in all settings.
How did you decide to open CFZ?
I knew there was a need for a facility outside of a hospital setting to work for children so we decided to open a place for children of all abilities. It started small, just me as a physical therapist and grew over time. We are able to offer PT, OT and speech for kids of all abilities.
What are the biggest accomplishments CFZ has seen to date?
The biggest accomplishments we have seen is the number of kids we have been able to work with. Over the past 18 years we went from a small facility, this is our 5th year anniversary that we build our own facility. We have a satellite location in Meriden and hopefully in the next few months we will have a satellite clinic open in Orange as well.
What is something you have on your wish list to achieve over the next 10 years?
Over the next 10 years, my hope is to not only be able to service more kids in more areas but to have more therapists step up in their roles of leadership and have more responsibility to make the best team that we can have for all of the kids.
