Our monthly “Employee Spotlight Series” offers a chance to meet members of the team and learn about their experience working with children.

Meet Michelle Bochicchio, COTA

Can you describe a typical day at Cheshire Fitness Zone?

A typical day at Cheshire Fitness Zone, I would say is not a typical day at all. It is actually more fun, in a way where we have to go with the flow. We have our set schedules but you never know what you are going to expect from the kids that day or what their mood is going to be. So it teaches us to be super flexible and be more creative with them so that they get the best form of care that they can receive.

How did you know you wanted to work with kids?

I knew I wanted to work with kids when I originally went to school for teaching. I love working with kids and I thought that teaching was going to be the profession for me but then I found out what occupational therapy was and that you can works with kids as well and work one on one with them and make a difference in their lives and I just love working with kids.

What is your favorite part about your job?

My favorite part about my job is not only working with the kids and having fun with them every day but is working with the families as well. I love collaborating with them and hearing what their lives are like outside of when they come here for therapy. Being able to carry over a lot of the strategies that we learn during our therapy sessions and just making sure that they have fun and grow all at the same time.

What are three words to describe you and why?

Three words to describe me are definitely energetic, creative and very caring. I want to say energetic because I try to have as much energy for the kids, just to make sure they are having as much fun as possible when they come here because I don’t want it to seem like they are coming here to do work, even though, that’s what we will be doing. Creative, because you need to be creative with this kind of profession and working with kids. You want to make sure that the children are getting the best kind of care but you want to make it fun and just help them grow. The last one, I definitely would say caring because, for every single one of my kids, I have their best interest. I just want to make sure that they know how much I care for them and that I want to see them progress and just do great with everything.

What is something you wish to achieve over the next ten years?

Something on my wish list that I would like to achieve over the next ten years is to further my education. I want to just keep learning and do whatever I can to help these kids. I truly do love working with them so anything that I can do on my part, I would love to help them out.
